Trauma Surgeon Q&A with Dr. Sheets, M.D., at RCH – Event Recap

On January 29, from 6 to 7 PM, students had the incredible opportunity to attend a Q&A session with Dr. Sheets, M.D., a trauma surgeon at RCH. The event provided a firsthand look into the high-stakes world of trauma surgery, where every second counts, and decisions can mean the difference between life and death. Dr. Sheets shared his experiences from years on the front lines of emergency medicine, offering a raw and insightful perspective on what it truly means to be a trauma surgeon.


Throughout the discussion, Dr. Sheets addressed a range of questions from students eager to learn more about the field. He spoke about the intense training required, the emotional resilience needed to handle critical cases, and the rewarding yet demanding nature of the job. He emphasized the importance of teamwork in the operating room and how trauma surgeons collaborate with emergency medical teams to provide life-saving care. Students also gained valuable advice on navigating the medical school journey, from choosing the right pre-med path to handling the pressures of residency.
