Purrs and Purpose: AMSA Volunteers at Room 8 Cat Shelter

On Saturday, November 16th, AMSA members spent a heartwarming morning at the Room 8 Cat Shelter in Riverside, giving back to the community and connecting with some of the most adorable residents around—cats! This much-loved volunteering event brought together students and animal lovers for a day of tidying, playing, and supporting the incredible work done at the shelter.

From 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM, volunteers helped with various tasks, including cleaning and organizing the shelter space, ensuring the cats had a comfortable and cozy environment. But the real highlight of the morning was spending quality time with the feline residents. Whether it was playing with a ball of yarn or simply offering a lap to nap on, each interaction brought joy to both the cats and the volunteers.

The event was more than just fun and games—it was an opportunity to support a vital organization in the Riverside community. Room 8 Cat Shelter is dedicated to caring for homeless and abandoned cats, providing them with shelter, medical care, and plenty of love until they find their forever homes. By lending a hand, AMSA volunteers helped make a difference in the lives of these animals while learning about the shelter’s mission and impact.

Spots for the event filled up quickly, and it’s no surprise why—volunteering at the cat shelter is a rewarding experience that combines service with smiles (and plenty of purring). Many volunteers left with a renewed appreciation for the importance of animal welfare and a commitment to supporting local shelters.

A huge thank you to Room 8 Cat Shelter for hosting us and to everyone who joined us for this special event. Your time and effort help make the world a kinder place for our furry friends!

If you missed this event, don’t worry—AMSA is always organizing opportunities to give back to the community. Stay tuned for future events, and we hope to see you next time!
