Project Food: Serving the Community with Warm Meals and Drinks
AMSA UCR

On Wednesday, February 19th, AMSA volunteers came together once again for another Project Food event, dedicating their evening from 5:00 to 7:00 PM to helping those in need in downtown Riverside. This time, our team focused not only on distributing meals but also on providing coffee, milk, water, and juice to ensure everyone had something warm or refreshing to drink alongside their food. The night started with setting up tables, organizing supplies, and prepping the food that would be served.
Once everything was ready, volunteers took their spots at different stations—some serving hot meals straight from the kitchen, others handing out drinks, and a few making sure the line flowed smoothly. The teamwork made everything run efficiently, and it was great to see everyone pitching in to make the evening a success. One of the most rewarding parts of the night was the small interactions with the people we were serving. Whether it was offering someone a hot cup of coffee or handing out a meal with a smile, those little moments reminded us why we keep coming back. It wasn’t just about food—it was about making sure people felt seen and cared for. After the last meal was served, volunteers stayed behind to help clean up, ensuring that we left the space as organized as we found it. By the time 7:00 PM rolled around, there was a sense of accomplishment in the air.
Even though it was just a couple of hours, it felt good knowing we had played a small role in supporting the community. A huge thank you to everyone who came out to help! Project Food continues to be one of AMSA’s most meaningful service events, and we’re always grateful for the opportunity to give back. If you couldn’t make it this time, don’t worry—there will be more chances to volunteer soon! See you at the next one!
