Helping Hands Food Pantry

Writer: AMSA UCRAMSA UCR

On Sunday, February 23rd, AMSA members spent the morning volunteering at Helping Hands Food Pantry from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. It was an early start to the day, but knowing we were helping provide food for families in need made it totally worth it. The morning kicked off with organizing and sorting donations—everything from canned goods to fresh produce. With so many people relying on the pantry each week, making sure everything was properly packed and ready to go was an important first step. Once the food was sorted, we helped distribute bags to families, making sure they got what they needed for the week ahead.

One of the best parts of the experience was getting to interact with the people coming through. It wasn’t just about handing out food—it was about sharing a moment of kindness and understanding. Whether it was a quick chat or just a smile, those small interactions made the morning feel even more meaningful. By the time noon rolled around, we were all a little tired, but it felt good knowing we had spent the morning doing something that directly helped others. Helping Hands Food Pantry does incredible work for the community, and AMSA is grateful to be part of it. A big thank you to everyone who came out to volunteer!

If you missed this one, don’t worry—there will be more chances to get involved. Keep an eye out for the next AMSA service event, and we’ll see you there!
