AMSA Volunteers at Insan Health Fair: Shadowing Healthcare Professionals and Serving the Community

Writer: AMSA UCRAMSA UCR

Our AMSA members recently had an incredible experience volunteering at the Insan Health Fair, where they worked alongside healthcare professionals and provided vital support to community members. Held in Pomona, this event offered a unique opportunity for our volunteers to gain hands-on experience in a real-world setting while making a positive impact on the community.

Throughout the day, AMSA volunteers shadowed healthcare professionals, observing their work up close and learning about various medical practices in a clinical setting. For those with language skills, translating for non-English-speaking patients became an invaluable part of the experience, allowing members to bridge communication gaps and ensure each patient felt heard and understood.

In addition to shadowing and translation, AMSA volunteers assisted with patient triaging, helping to direct patients and prioritize their needs. Members also took part in general volunteer efforts, such as handing out hygiene kits and essential supplies to families, underscoring AMSA’s commitment to holistic care and wellness in underserved communities.

The Insan Health Fair gave our members an opportunity to contribute directly to the well-being of those in need, while also gaining meaningful exposure to healthcare careers. We’re grateful to the healthcare professionals and organizers who made this experience possible and look forward to many more events that allow AMSA members to make a difference in the community. Thank you to everyone who volunteered—it was a rewarding day of service, learning, and compassion!
