We recently held a Q&A session with Dr. Cydney Osano, and it was one of our most insightful events of the quarter! Dr. Osano is a board-certified physician specializing in preventative medicine, a field focused on keeping individuals and communities healthy through proactive care, education, and early intervention.

During the session, Dr. Osano shared her journey through medical school, what drew her to preventative medicine, and what her day-to-day responsibilities look like. She emphasized how this specialty isn’t just about treating illness—it’s about stopping disease before it starts. From public health initiatives to patient counseling and screenings, she painted a picture of a career rooted in education, equity, and long-term wellness.

Attendees had the chance to ask questions about:

  • The differences between public health and clinical medicine

  • How lifestyle, environment, and behavior play into patient care

  • The importance of communication and trust in patient relationships

  • How to get involved in preventative medicine as a student

Dr. Osano also shared personal advice for pre-meds, including how to find your passion within medicine, what she wishes she knew earlier, and how to maintain a healthy work-life balance.

Thank you to Dr. Osano for your time, honesty, and encouragement—you gave us a lot to think about and inspired many of us to look deeper into the role prevention plays in healthcare.

If you missed the event, don’t worry! Reach out for notes and key takeaways from the Q&A.
