On February 24, 2018, AMSA attended League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) health clinic. We worked in shifts from 5am to 5pm, aiding the doctors, dentists, optometrists, and other healthcare professionals bring medical free medical care to the underserved population of Riverside. On February 15th, 2018, AMSA held a social at the University Village Tower Theater. Members got together to watch Big Hero 6 and enjoyed popcorn and candy while bonding with one another. Also, the AMSA board members wrote Valentines Day-themed puns onto red cards that were given out to all the members. Thank you to those who showed up and we hope you had a fun time!
On February 13th, 2018 in Chung 141, AMSA held its third general meeting. During the meeting, guest speaker and AMSA alumni Stephen Cheung gave insight on what CPR Hero does and how to get a hands-on medical experience on a Cambodia trip that the program offers. There were also various discounts mentioned from AMSA's partnership for CPR/First Aid classes. Thank you to all who attended and Stephen Cheung for sharing his thoughts and giving advice!
On Saturday, February 10th, 2018, AMSA participated in a beach cleanup at Huntington Beach Lifeguard Tower from 9:00 am-11:00 am. The clean up was coordinated by Orange County Coastkeeper and 20 AMSA members along with around 100+ other people showed up. After the cleanup, the members had a fun lunch at Souplantation. The second meeting of winter quarter was held on January 31st, 2018 in Bourne’s A125. Guest speaker Dr. Nihira came and discussed his experience working in the OBGYN field and overall journey as a medical professional. Afterwards, students were able to get their questions answered about different areas in the medical field, medical school applicant qualifications, and more. Thank you to all that attended and a special thank you to Dr. Nihira for his wise words!
